I’m sure many of you have already seen this, but there’s quite a bit of controversy surrounding a JFK air traffic controller that seems to have brought his son to work, and the son even did a few ATC transmissions. If you haven’t heard the audio, you can listen to it here . Now I realize I’m probably taking a very unpopular stance here, but I don’t see the big deal. Don’t get me wrong, this was a dumb move on...

You really can’t make this stuff up! Via Fox : A self-styled Hindu holy man and a British Airways flight attendant have been arrested in Delhi on suspicion of involvement in a multimillion-dollar prostitution racket. Police said that Shiv Myra Dwivedi, a Hindu swami, used his temple in south Delhi as a front to provide as many as 200 prostitutes, including flight attendants and students, often to clients in five-star hotels. In his spiritual...

In stark contrast to the article I posted a couple of days ago about how much air traffic controllers in Spain make, check out this Irish Times article about some labor issues with the air traffic controllers there. The highlight has to be the quotes by Michael O’Leary, Ryanair’s CEO: Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary said that his airline was four-square behind the Irish Aviation Authority in the dispute and said that Mr...

I’m a huge fan of CNN Business Traveller (and in particular Richard Quest’s always eccentric attitude), and especially enjoyed this month’s episode as they talk to some ”mileage millionaires.” They couldn’t have chosen better people — well done to Gary and Gene, you represented us well! Take a look if you get a chance ( part one , part two , part three ). Just as interesting, as Gary points out on his...

Check out this clip from Larry King Live, as Joan Rivers discusses her recent denied boarding on Continental: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvDgCT7JlDQ My first observation is how entitled she sounds, suggesting they should call the captain because he would know who she is. This is an interesting situation, though. On one hand if logic prevailed she could have been allowed to board. Ultimately she was …  Read More →

I posted a couple of days ago about Chris Elliott receiving a subpoena for posting a security directive. While he probably shouldn’t have posted it word-for-word, he was helping out the traveling public and there was nothing in there that I’d consider to be confidential (other than the text identifying it as such). Well, it seems the Department of Homeland security has come to their …  Read More →

Poor, poor Chris Elliott. And while I almost always disagree with him, this time it’s different. I support him. As we all know, the TSA didn’t exactly do a great job making the new security initiatives clear. So in trying to help the public out (for once), Chris Elliott posted the security directive on his website, which wasn’t supposed to be published. Now, aside from the fact that this wasn’t supposed to be made public,...

I’ve been meaning to watch the documentary “One Six Right” forever. It has been recommended to me over and over and over, but my laziness always ends up getting the best of me. Well, in early December a friend passed on the DVD to me, so there were no more excuses. I finally got around to seeing it, and all I can say is “wow!” “One Six Right” is a documentary about …  Read More →

Take a listen to Matthew’s interview with NPR about mileage runs and frequent flyer programs. Well done, Matthew! And yes, if law doesn’t work out for you (which I’m sure it will), you have a career in radio to fall back on.  Read More →

You’ve gotta love the new “security” regulations the past few days, given that no one really has a clue what’s going on. I’ll be the first to blame it on the TSA’s incompetence, but this Chicago Tribune article quotes a DePaul University professor that has a different take: Transportation expert Joseph Schwieterman says that might be the point. The DePaul University professor says the lack of clarity keeps...

….and it was really, really good. Well, sort of. Kind of. First of all a bit of background. I was planning on seeing it on Christmas Day as that’s when it was supposed to come out in theaters, but I drove by the local movie theater earlier today and saw that it was listed as “now showing.” And it was indeed showing already, so I went to one of the showings this evening. The movie was exactly what I was expecting actually,...
