Business News Briefs...Now, the Kenya national bureau of statistics announced late this evening that the country's overall rate of inflation slowed down to 3.2 percent in August, down from July's 3.6 percent, mainly on account of a dive in telecommunication costs after a vicious price war broke out in mobile telephony. And talking of mobile telephony, the mandatory sim card registration exercise, feared to curtail growth, was to end on Tuesday. Here are details of this and other business highlights of the day.

NEWS BRIEFS: Landmark Gene Patentin...A federal district court judge ruled in a case argued by Cardozo Law Prof. Dan Ravicher that two genes strongly associated with breast and ovarian cancer were products of nature and therefore could not be patented. If upheld, the landmark decision could throw into doubt the patents covering some 2000 genes and reshape the laws of intellectual property.
