The Critics: ‘Confessions of a Travel Writer’
So “Confessions of a Travel Writer” debuted last night, and the response—at least from the commenters on our interview with host Charles Runnette —has been … colorful. But what did Runnette’s fellow travel writers think  Read More →
View from the Wing #23 on Technocrati for Travel
Apparently Technocrati is listing this blog as #23 in travel . I don’t know how these rankings work or how they’re figured, how often they’re updated, what they’re based on, etc. But I guess I’m pleased to be in the top 25. I get why ‘produced’ blogs like Gadling and Jaunted beat me out, and why Rick Seaney...
The Number of Americans With Passports Is Surging; An Airline Has Ordered A380s With 840 Seats Each, and Other Travel Tidbits …
I always look forward to the chatty eight-times-a-year trans-Atlantic travel reports by Donald N. Martin & Co., the travel promotion company. The current one, forwarded by Hans C. Friis-Jacobsen and Neil S. Martin, the managing partners of the firm, is as usual full of interesting factoids, comments and even detailed charts for us serious travel...
What Joan Rivers can teach us about boarding passes
When you get your boarding pass, regardless of when or where, check the name. Septuagenarian comedienne Joan Rivers got stuck in Costa Rica, blaming the Continental gate agent in Costa Rica for being “an idiot, a moron,” for not letting her on the plane. In an interview with Larry King (another septuagenarian!) on CNN, Rivers implied...
Saying Goodbye to 2009 in Travel: Six More Links
We spent last week saying our farewells to the year that’s just ended—in books , video and more. But before we truly close the book on 2009, there are a few more links worth checking out. The Times of London has put together its own year-end list of best travel books , while the New York Times also rounds up some holiday travel reads...
Deciding on Airfare Deals
It appears that deciding on Jamaica airfare deals, the ideal time to travel and the best possible price are items that are talked about frequently by most tourists. I know it might be shocking to learn that even though the cost for tickets is fluctuating in most countries around the world, it is obtainable for the Caribbean islands considerably less....
Travel Movie Watch: ‘A Moveable Feast’
Hemingway’s classic Paris memoir looks to be getting the book-to-big-screen treatment: The author’s granddaughter, actress Mariel Hemingway, has acquired the film and TV rights and is moving ahead with the project. There are no details yet, but plenty of intriguing questions. For instance, how might the movie handle the editing controversies...

TruePower UCS Power Outlet w/ Built-In USB Ports
Wall outlets are a critical link in the technology chain which haven’t received much attention in a long time. That’s why we felt theTruePower UCS Power Outlet with Built in USB Ports was worth a mention, since it’s a seemingly no brainer change to the age old stand by that should have been integrated years ago. As the picture...
The Travel Bookshop Turns 30
The Notting Hill landmark , which has the distinction of being the only travel bookstore—that I know of—to play a role in a Hugh Grant romantic comedy , celebrates its 30th birthday later this summer.  Read More →
